Price and paying
How much does lawn mowing cost in Terre Haute?
Up to 10,000 square feet of grass, which is most quarter-acre lots, pays the $49 minimum for weekly mowing. Bigger lawns cost more, priced on the square feet of grass we measure rather than the lot. Type your address for your figure before we ask for a name or number. Typical prices by lot size.
How much is a full season of lawn care?
It depends on which services you want and how much grass you have. Each one is priced for your property and charged as the work is done. Typical prices, and how your number is worked out.
Do you charge more for the first cut?
Only if the lawn is overgrown when we arrive, and only once. We quote that visit before we start, not after we finish.
How long is a quote good for?
Seven days from the day we give it to you. How we quote.
Is the cheapest quote in town a good idea?
Check three things first: whether the price is per visit or per month, whether it includes trimming, edging and the blow-off, and, if they treat lawns, their Indiana applicator licence number. Cheap mowing is often mow-and-go with no trim work.
Do you require a deposit?
Only for holiday lighting: 10% of the quote, non-refundable, due within 24 hours of reserving your install date. Mowing and lawn treatment need no deposit.
How do I pay?
Recurring service needs a payment method on file, charged when the work is done. A bank account keeps our costs, and so our prices, lower than a card, but a card works, and so does a check if you ask. Commercial accounts are invoiced on terms.
Is there a contract? Can I cancel?
No contract for mowing. Give us one day's notice and we stop.
Scheduling
How soon can you start?
Within a week. It is quickest when your street is already on one of our route days.
What happens if it rains on my mowing day?
We work to stay on schedule, and a rain day can push your visit back a day. We do not mow saturated ground, because on wet Wabash Valley soil a mower leaves ruts that last all season.
Can I pick my day?
You can ask, and if it fits a route we already run, yes. A one-property trip on another day costs more, and your quote says so.
Can I skip a week?
Yes. Give us one day's notice, by text or a call.
Do you mow year round?
No. Mowing runs April through October. The average last spring frost here is April 15 and the average first fall frost is October 19. The Terre Haute lawn calendar.
What are your hours?
Monday to Saturday, 7am to 7pm, closed Sunday. Every way to reach us.
Where do you work?
Terre Haute, North Terre Haute, South Terre Haute, Seelyville and Riley in Vigo County, and Brazil in Clay County. We do not serve West Terre Haute. An address more than 10 miles from New Life Fellowship on Wabash Avenue is 20% more.
Licences, insurance and records
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We are insured with Auto-Owners Insurance: $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate in general liability, a $1 million umbrella, $1 million in commercial auto, and workers' compensation for every employee. A certificate of insurance is available on request. Fertilizer and weed control in Indiana need a pesticide business licence from the Office of Indiana State Chemist. Ours is #278075, and our certified turf applicator is Zac Wallace, category 3B.
How do I check whether a lawn company is licensed in Indiana?
Search the company on the state's free Pesticide Business / Applicator Search. Category 3B is turf. If the business is not listed, it is not licensed to treat your lawn for hire. Business licences renew every December 31.
Can Terre Haute set its own rules about lawn chemicals?
No. Indiana Code 15-16-5-71 says "A political subdivision does not have authority to regulate by ordinance the use or application of pesticides." The Office of Indiana State Chemist is the only regulator.
What if I think a company misapplied something on my property?
Call the Office of Indiana State Chemist on (765) 637-6678, free, and do it quickly: OISC says "evidence is often time sensitive." OISC does not handle compensation, so a claim for damage is a separate matter. Complaint form and guidance.
The city and county rules
How tall can grass get in Terre Haute before I get a notice?
Eight inches (City Code Sec. 6-170). The same section also requires cutting at least four times between May 1 and October 31. Complaints go through the city's 311 line to Code Enforcement.
I got a letter from the city about my lawn. Can you get there in time?
Tell us the deadline on the letter and we will tell you honestly whether we can make it. The notice gives ten days. After one notice in a year, the city can post a continuous abatement notice and mow without warning for the rest of that season, then bill the cost as a lien on the property (Sec. 6-171 and 6-172).
I live outside the city limits. Does the rule still apply?
Yes, and it is the same eight inches. Vigo County's weed ordinance (Chapter 47) covers any unincorporated parcel not used for farming, and the county's cure window is short. It is enforced by Vigo County Building Inspections, (812) 462-3365.
Does the city pick up grass clippings and leaves?
Yes, with your regular trash: the city code counts grass and leaves as trash, and plastic bags are fine. Loose leaves raked to the tree row are picked up by the city's fall sweep. Seasonal cleanup.
Lawn care timing
When should I put down crabgrass preventer in Terre Haute?
By mid-to-late March. Purdue's research shows it "can be applied as early as March 1 and still be effective all season." The germination model Purdue uses reached its trigger here on April 18 in 2025 and April 1 in 2026, so a fixed April date can easily be late. Fertilization and weed control.
When is the best time to fertilize?
Fall. Purdue puts most of the year's nitrogen from late summer through autumn, when it builds roots and density without a growth surge. September is the most valuable month for a Terre Haute lawn.
When should I aerate and overseed?
Early September. Purdue calls it "the best time of year" for core aeration, with April second and summer ruled out. Seed as early in the late-summer window as you can. We aerate and overseed from August through October. Aeration and overseeding.
What grass should I plant?
Turf-type tall fescue for most sunny lots here: Purdue recommends it for low-input, unirrigated lawns. For heavy traffic from kids and dogs, Kentucky bluegrass repairs itself better.
My lawn went brown in July. Is it dead?
Usually not. Cool-season grass goes semi-dormant in summer heat and comes back when nights cool. Pull on a brown patch first: if the stems snap off at the soil with sawdust-like material on the ends, Purdue says that "is diagnostic for billbug larval feeding," not drought.
What is the dead patch that rolls up like carpet?
White grubs eating the roots. Cut a 3-inch-deep wedge of sod in a few spots and count: Purdue's threshold for damage is 5 to 10 grubs per square foot, and fewer than 5 "rarely require treatment."
When should I stop mowing for the year?
When the grass stops growing, usually late October or early November. Do not drop the height for the last cuts; Purdue says so in capitals.
Working with us
Will I get the same crew every week?
We try, because a crew that knows your gate, your dog and your sprinkler heads does better work. We will not promise it, because people take vacations.
What if I am not happy with a visit?
Tell us within 48 hours of the visit, by a call or a text, and we come back within 24 hours to put it right.
Do you work for out-of-town rental owners?
Yes. We bill the owner, and access questions go to whoever you name.
Do you do commercial properties?
Yes. Commercial grounds maintenance covers scope, insurance and single-invoice billing.
When do holiday lights go up and come down?
Installs run from late October into early December. The lights come down in the first week of January and we store them until next season. Holiday lighting.
Do you do snow removal?
Yes, this season: a home's driveway and sidewalks plowed, and salt, each priced for your drive; for a business, lots, drive lanes and walks on a 2-inch trigger. See snow plowing and de-icing.
Can I read your reviews?
Yes, on our Google Business Profile. We will not publish a rating or review count here until you can check it on the platform it came from.
Who owns the company?
Zac Wallace, Brayden Wallace and Reagan Harpole, who grew up in Terre Haute and still work on properties. About us.
